Spectrum Event Medical Services Class Action

On July 29, 2020, Monkhouse Law and Ross & McBride LLP started a proposed class action against Spectrum Event Medical Services (GP) inc. (herein “SEMS”) for wages as a result of the misclassification of paramedics as independent contractors rather than employees.

On May 27, 2021, the parties reached a settlement agreement, available here: Settlement Agreement Spectrum Class Action. The Settlement Agreement must be approved by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. The Settlement approval hearing is scheduled for August 23, 2021.

The Class covered by the Proposed Settlement includes all paramedics identified as independent contractors who worked for Spectrum Event Medical Services (GP) Inc., or one of the companies Spectrum Event Medical Services (GP) Inc. acquired, since the year 2000 to the date of the certification of this action who have not filed a complaint with the Ministry of Labour relating to the matters in question unless it was properly withdrawn.

If approved, the settlement provides financial compensation for eligible Class Members who meet the requirements of the claims process by submitting a completed Claim Form and supporting documentation where required according to the formulas established in the Proposed Distribution and Notice Spectrum Monkhouse Law with Opt-Out Notice 2021.

The settlement provides a fund of money that class members can make a claim against. The amount of compensation you may receive is dependent on the specifics of your claim and how many people make a claim
