Spectrum Event Medical Services Class Action

On July 29, 2020, Monkhouse Law and Ross & McBride LLP started a proposed class action against Spectrum Event Medical Services (GP) inc. (herein “SEMS”) for wages as a result of the misclassification of paramedics as independent contractors rather than employees.

SETTLEMENT APPROVED ON AUGUST 23, 2021

On May 27, 2021, the parties reached a settlement agreement in the matter. Spectrum has denied all liability. On August 23, 2021, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice has approved the parties’ settlement in this class action.

The Class covered by the Approved Settlement includes all paramedics identified as independent contractors who worked for Spectrum Event Medical Services (GP) Inc., or one of the companies Spectrum Event Medical Services (GP) Inc. acquired, since the year 2000 to the date of the certification of this action who have not filed a complaint with the Ministry of Labour relating to the matters in question unless it was properly withdrawn.

ADMINISTRATION OF SETTLEMENT COMPLETE
The administration of the settlement of the class action is now complete. The time to claim a portion of the settlement proceeds expired on January 1, 2022. As of April 3, 2022, all payments have been made to those who have filed valid claims. (Modafinil) No further claims can be made.
